Ye Ed. has received several e-mails
about braking issues, and has compiled a load (yes a LOAD)
of great information on this vital topic . . .
Here's
an example from the Chit-Chat #3 for 2007 ----
While
resourcing information to help Herb Lloyd find a new front
rotor for his M500 motorhome I found the following information.
While the hubs w/disc are different on the M 3-4-5-6 Dodge
chassis many other parts are the same. The caliper housings
are the same for both the right and left on the M500 and
600. The adapters are the same on both the M500 and M600.
Also the adapters are the same on both the M300 and M400.
The boot and seal packages are all the same for the M 34-5-6
for years 1978 and 1979. The pads w/lining are the same
for the year 1979.
Herb took his M500 motorhome to a repair shop to have his
rotors and brakes repaired. The
repair shop found that rotors from an R chassis
would fit on the M500 chassis. The part
number for the new rotors is 1313-810CMH. I believe the
CMH is the brand name. Does
anyone have any knowledge what CMH stands for? Finding a
new supplier for the front disc
brakes and rear brake drums is good news.
Found the following information in the Bendix Brake Service
Manual on how the hydro-boost
brake system works. The information relates to the Dodge
chassis braking system. Had e-mail from a person advising
they had installed a Mico-Loc to replace their emergency
brake. Does anyone know what a Mico-Loc brake is and how
it works? I was in Myrtle
Beach when the e-mail came in. I left that e-mail in M.B.
The emergency brake on the
Dodge chassis has always been a problem. When I installed
the Gear Vendor Overdrive
Transmission in the motorhome the transmission came with
a new Ford emergency brake
and it really works. First it is about twice the size of
the Dodge emergency brake. Also
several people advised that the Dodge brake cable freezes
up. The Martin Co. in Lebanon,
PA can make new emergency brake cable with stainless steel
cable and Teflon coated jacket.
There have been several articles about brakes in the trade
magazines in the past couple
months. Jay Haynor writes a very informative article about
motor
